2 Corinthians 5:21 God caused (Jesus) the one who didn’t know sin, to be sin for our sake, so that through Him we could become the righteousness of God.

Jesus came to make us righteous again. The word righteous means right standing; right positioning. Jesus came to put us back in the position where we are in right relationship with God again; so that we can be qualified to receive the promises of God.
